|Do you use any other tools for your self development or spiritual practice?
I sage my house a lot. I like to keep things clear and unblocked, and find that a few simple rituals can be really helpful when you are wanting to move unwanted, stagnant energy. I light beeswax candles, keep a de-humidifier going while I sleep, and take salt baths to help keep me balanced and clear. I would LOVE to acquire some crystal bowls one day, as I am also so drawn to music and sound-healing.
I also have a growing crystal collection and have been quite in love with rocks and gems since I was a child. I don’t necessarily use my crystals for healing, as I feel they are more helpful for balancing, clearing, and ritual purposes.
My grandmother also taught me how to use a crystal ball and pendulum when I was fairly young, but I haven’t really used them for myself. I do recall her once finding my favourite long lost sweater stuffed in an old closet in our home with the use of her pendulum!
What does self care mean to you?
Self care is something that has taken me a while to fully grasp and appreciate. I think first and foremost, it means being able to love yourself and be accepting of who you are, “flaws” and all. Once I started to make some serious changes and give myself adequate time for my own mental and physical health, my world completely changed. I took the time to eat properly, drink enough water, and get enough sleep. I let go of the unhealthy relationships, the addictive behaviours and the negative self talk. But I also believe it is an on-going journey that ebbs and flows.
Sometimes, it’s as simple as taking the time to meditate, while in other moments, it means spending time with the people I love. Immersing myself in Nature and also exercising is so important for me, as I can immediately feel the positive impacts. I also have a tendency to be reclusive and hermit-like, so it’s so important for me to be outdoors and spend time with mama Gaia.
Do you meditate? If so, do you have a personal kind of meditation or the way you’ve developed meditating that you’d like to share with us?
I do meditate and find that when I keep at it consistently, I feel much clearer, lighter, and experience dreams that are more vivid and symbolic. I have experimented with various kinds – Transcendental, Kundalini, Guided, and in the energy work I have done over the years. But I have to say, I sort of love to just listen to guided audio recordings (from all of these three categories), because they help me tune in to other frequencies and get me out of the buzz of my own thoughts. I really look forward to doing this each morning.
