Visionary #35: Meghan Wallace James- modern Feng Shui expert

Meet Meghan Wallace James, who works with clients on a one-on-one basis, as well as workshops and events with her own modern take on Feng Shui. The ancient Chinese practice of Feng Shui is the art of arranging a dwelling around the natural elements of Fire, earth, metal, water, air, space, and wood, ‘Qi’ Energy flowing through the home and using The Bagua (a Feng Shui ‘map’ of your home). Meghan’s consultancy business breaks down the subject for contemporary lifestyles, allowing the client to open their home/ office or other space to become gateway to cultivating success in career, love, health etc and even removing blockages in these areas. Meghan is now here in our Visionary series with an interview about her own lifestyle and Feng Shui practices for this season.

Home is where my sons live, and for the foreseeable future, that is Los Angeles, California. It means I build team

wanderlust into my business model.

Describe what you do in 3 words:

Solve the riddle.

When did you first become interested in the art of Feng Shui and how did you build it into a business?

I have entered into serious relationships with my spaces since forever, yet it wasn’t until 2013 that I “discovered” Feng Shui- or learned that this thing I did had a name, and came with its own map. My business is coming through me, two steps at a time. I believe my modality keeps me- and others- in intuitive alignment.

What does your typical week look like?

Chatting with my family and clients, with a break for a hardcore foot rub once a week. Contemplating

adding romance into the mix… how, who… no clue, but I suppose that’s what excites me.

What simple daily Feng Shui practices do you carry out in your own home?

I wake up very early, make espresso, add raw cream, and really take time to look around. I often find myself breaking into a smile – for what is, and what is en route; ‘Journey not Destination’.

What essential and simple tools could people just getting started with Feng Shui bring into their life?

Drop in with yourself. What needs to shift within your Space? You (SO) know the answer. Commit to seeing that

project through. Track how life feels three weeks, and then three months later. Call me if you want support.

What are your favourite Autumn rituals for the home?

Autumn is my jam. I stock the home with an incognito altar to the Gods of The Harvest, with a tray simply

overflowing with local, organic, seasonal produce (thank you Hollywood Farmer’s Market). And I open the

windows and really let the home breathe; it’s necessary post the Summer stick and pre-Winter chill.

What does the concept of self care mean to you?

I’m still figuring that one out. Single Motherhood completely humbles me – brings me to my knees – yet I have never felt more capable.

What are your favourite skincare and hair care regimes?

Massages and oils – I go weak at any combo of touch and gooey nourishment. I read somewhere that the

late Sonia Rykiel (RIP) had a facial and massage nightly!

Do you work with any other holistic practices for your health and wellbeing?

I visit with my healer, my midwife and my intuitive each October, and take time for an evening stroll more often

than not.

What has been your big highlight this year?

Launching my consultancy; I find building a business very fulfilling.
